The Prime Minister, Nguyen Xuan Phuc Hopes Italy to Boost FDI into Vietnam

In the afternoon of November 28, at the Government Office, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met Mr.Ivan Scalfarotto, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Italy to Vietnam for the 4th meeting of the Vietnam-Italy Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation.

The Prime Minister welcomes the visit of Deputy Minister, especially 60 Italian companies joining the delegation. The PM said that the two sides should promote economic and trade cooperation on this visit.

"We need to boost bilateral trade turnover and investment in the near future. The Vietnamese government is keen to promote cooperation with Italy, especially in the field of trade and investment, "he said.

The PM expected Italy to boost FDI into Vietnam. In addition, the tourism potential of the two countries is very large, may soon study the promotion and open direct flights between the two countries, to promote cooperation in areas such as green technology, transportation, infrastructure, machinery ...

The Prime Minister suggested that the two sides need strengthen the exchange of high-level delegations, coordinate the implementation of the strategic partnership action plan in 2017-2018, and continue strategic dialogue in the fields of diplomacy and defense, to organize well the activities of commemorating the 45th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.

PM hopes Italy, a key member of the EU, soon urged the EU to sign and ratify the Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

He urged Italian businesses to invest heavily in Vietnam in areas which is considered as its strengths and Vietnam needs development the fields such as mechanics, textiles, footwear and transportation, etc. The Vietnamese government created favorable conditions for Italian businesses to do business successfully in Vietnam.

The PM believes that in 2018, bilateral trade and investment will be strengthened further.

Deputy Minister affirmed that Italy always supports the policy of trade liberalization. The Government, as well as Italian businesses, highly appreciated the Government of Vietnam in opening up trade and liberalizing trade.

Italy regards Vietnam as a friend, partner to promote cooperation, especially the desire to increase bilateral trade turnover in a more balanced way, to enhance investment cooperation in Vietnam, especially in the fields of green technology and hi-tech.
