Foreign Investment - The Bright Piece of the Economy

In 2017, the results of attracting foreign investment are recorded as the top bright spot in the economy, an important factor contributing to the GDP growth of 6.7% (as forecasted) and the export surplus after a lively year of operation.

Spectacular achievements

Investment in Vietnam - The past 11 months have witnessed the success of Vietnam in attracting foreign investment. According to a report by the Foreign Investment Agency (Ministry of Planning and Investment), the country has attracted more than US$ 33 billion in foreign capital, including newly registered capital, increased capital and share capital of foreign investors. Totalization, the result of attracting foreign capital increased to 53.4% over the same period last year, showing a spectacular breakthrough, success beyond forecast.

Especially, the results have been positive, continuously increasing over the months, and there have been large projects, with the scale of capital from nearly 1 billion to more than 2 billion / project, mainly in the field of energy and real estate. The attraction of this source of capital will projected to continue to be a bright piece of the economy due to the positive effect from the exciting activities of Vietnam in the role of hosting APEC event.

In addition, foreign investment projects disbursed US$ 16 billion, an increase of 11.9% over the same period in 2016. This fact shows confidence in the future operation, peace of mind, desire for long term business of foreign enterprises in Vietnam. Thus, both newly registered capital and disbursed capital will increase strongly; will be the input to promote economic growth in the coming time. It is hoped that 2018 will continue to be a breakthrough time for high growth of the economy by mobilizing and promoting the efficiency of domestic capital combined with attracting foreign capital flows as a result of 2017.

It is forecasted that Vietnam will attract about US$ 35 billion in total foreign investment this year and go beyond the target. Foreign investment disbursements are expected to reach record levels of US$ 17.5 billion, helping the foreign investment sector continue to affirm its important role in the economy. Particularly, exports contributed more than 70% of the total turnover of the country.
