FDI Inflows into Vietnam Reached a Record US$ 36 Billion

The total FDI capital newly registered, increased and contributed to purchase share of foreign investors in our country in the past 12 months was US$ 35.88 billion, up 44.4% compared to 2016.

Investment in Vietnam - According to the Foreign Investment Department (Ministry of Planning and Investment), from the beginning of the year to December 12 2017, the total FDI capital newly registered and licensed, increased and contributed capital to buy shares of foreign investors into Vietnam was 35.88 billion, up 44.4% over the same period in 2016.

Thus, the amount of FDI in Vietnam has nearly doubled in the past four years, from US$ 20 billion in 2014 to nearly US$ 36 billion in 2017.

In the field of investment, foreign investors have invested in 19 industries, of which the manufacturing and processing sector is attracting much attention from foreign investors with total capital of US$ 15.87 billion, accounting for 44.2% of total registered capital.

Power production and distribution ranked second with total investment capital of US$ 8.37 billion, accounting for 23.3% of total registered investment. The third was the real estate business with total registered capital of US$ 3.05 billion, accounting for 8.5% of total registered capital.

According to investment partners, 115 countries and territories have investment in Vietnam, of which Japan ranks first with total investment of US$ 9.11 billion, accounting for 25.4% of total investment capital.

Korea ranked second with total registered capital of US$ 8.49 billion, accounting for 23.7% of total investment capital in Vietnam; Singapore ranked third with a total registered capital of US$ 5.3 billion, accounting for 14.8% of total investment capital.

According to the investment area, foreign investors have invested in 59 provinces and cities, of which Ho Chi Minh City is the locality attracting the most foreign investment capital with a total registered capital of US$ 6.5 billion, 18.1% of total investment capital.

Bac Ninh ranks second with a total registered capital of US$ 3.4 billion, accounting for 9.5% of total investment capital. Thanh Hoa ranked third with total registered capital of US$ 3.17 billion, accounting for 8.8% of total investment capital.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment estimated that foreign direct investment projects had disbursed US$ 17.5 billion over the past 12 months, the highest ever.
