At the reception, Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung appreciated the AES Group’s activities in Vietnam in recent years, especially the completion of investing, building and successfully operating BOT Mong Duong II Power Plant.

The deputy PM also highly valued AES Group’s cooperation proposals in the field of energy, power development.

As a developing country, Vietnam has increasing demand for electricity. In order to meet this demand, it requires huge investment capital and modern technology to meet the requirements of environmental protection, Dung said.

In the current power structure, about 40% is hydropower, the rest is thermal power. However, hydropower is already being fully exploited and cannot be increased. Therefore, in the future, alternative sources of electricity will play a major role, Dung added.

For coal-fired thermal power plants, the requirement is to use modern, environment-friendly technologies, ensuring that they do not affect the residents’ living conditions in the project area. At the same time, the Vietnamese government will also have a policy to develop a gas-fired thermal power plant using renewable energy to ensure sufficient electricity for growth, the Deputy PM stressed.

Appreciating AES's interest in power development projects in Vietnam, Deputy PM Dung assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to take charge, together with the relevant agencies, in close collaboration with AES to continue the exchange specific contents before submitting to the competent agency for approval.

For his part, Bemerd Da Santos affirmed that AES Group highly valued the Vietnamese government’s support in recent time and said that the US government is also interested in creating favorable conditions for energy projects which EAS is or will be implementing in Vietnam.

Bemerd Da Santos also pledged to continue working closely with relevant agencies to improve the efficiency of existing projects as well as expanding investment in energy projects in Vietnam.

AES is committed to being an important partner in Vietnam's energy sector, said Bemerd Da Santos.

AES is listed among the 200 largest energy companies in the world with more than 10,000 employees worldwide. The Group is currently the largest gas supplier in Central America and the Caribbean.
